BNP Paribas breaks into Top 5 in Asian corporate banking and cash management – and maintains its market-leading position in Europe.

Greenwich's annual rankings of the top banks for corporates have been published for both Asia Pacific and Europe.

BNP Paribas' ongoing growth in Asia Pacific means it has now entered the top five for corporate banking and cash management in the region. Meanwhile, it has bolstered its position as the No. 1 bank for corporates in Europe.

Asia Pacific

BNP Paribas is firmly established itself as a leading European bank in the Asia Pacific region. It is now ranked in the top-five for "Asian Large Corporate Banking Market Penetration" and "Asian Large Corporate Cash Management Market Penetration" in the 2020 Greenwich Asian Large Corporate Banking and Cash Management study.

For Paul Yang, CEO of Corporate and Institutional Banking in Asia Pacific, believes the rankings reflect BNP Paribas' consistent support for its clients with a breadth of solutions that can only come from a large, diversified bank. "We look forward to maintaining the good momentum and partnering further with our corporate clients to deliver on our strong Asia Pacific platform," he says.

BNP Paribas also showed strong progress in three key Asian markets:

  • #1 Quality Leader in Asian Large Corporate Banking in South Korea
  • #1 Quality Leader in Asian Large Corporate Cash Management in China
  • #1 Quality Leader in Asian Large Corporate Cash Management in Singapore

The Greenwich report noted, "While BNP Paribas is well-recognised for the strength of its trade and structured finance franchise, the bank has also stepped into the Top-5 space as a credible large corporate banking and cash management provider in Asia."
" BNP Paribas reinforces its position as the No. 1 bank for corporates in Europe and is now top five for corporates in Asia."

Chye Kin Wee, Head of Transaction Banking, Asia Pacific, said, "This additional recognition complements our #1 positions in Trade Finance. We have built a strong Transaction Banking platform through the hard work of our teams across Asia Pacific and BNP Paribas can proudly offer a full breadth of solutions for our corporate clients, from Cash Management to Trade & Supply Chain Finance."

Mahesh Kini, Head of Cash Management, Asia Pacific, said: "I am very proud of what our team has achieved in the past year. It is very encouraging to note that our improved ranking to Top 5 is supported by an increase in number of citations by clients who recognise BNP Paribas as one of the leaders in the cash management business in APAC."

Greenwich Associates conducted 831 interviews in large corporate banking and 1,051 interviews in large corporate cash management at companies in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, from September to November 2019.

Europe

BNP Paribas was named "2020 Greenwich Quality Leader for Large Corporate Banking in the Eurozone Top Tier". Together with No. 1 positions as a Greenwich Share Leader in Corporate Banking, Cash Management and Trade Finance, this underlines the bank's commitment to providing the best possible service to European corporate clients.

Between September and December 2019, Greenwich Associates conducted over 1,200 interviews with financial managers of the main European companies with a turnover of more than €500 million, including more than 500 companies with an annual turnover of at least €2 billion in the "Top Tier" Corporate client category.

This took into account "Institutional Relationship Quality", including effective senior management support, ease of doing business, ability to communicate up front KYC, willingness to lend and competitive pricing. "Relationship Manager Quality" was another major factor, which includes frequency of contact, timely follow up on requests, proactive provision of advice, knowledge of international needs and effective coordination of product specialists.
