BNP Paribas celebrated World Environment Day with a host of interesting events including a sustainability fair, and expert climate change talks.

On 5th June BNP Paribas celebrated World Environment Day in London with a host of interesting events including a sustainability fair, expert climate change talk from the BNP Paribas Foundation, and insightful sessions raising awareness about the environment.

The Sustainability Fair

The sustainability fair featured six companies - Riverford, Solar Century, Saint Gobain, Evans, Tesla and Airflow - all of whom help consumers contribute towards improving their environmental footprint and fostering a sustainable lifestyle. Internal employees were also given the opportunity to ride in a new Tesla, and understand how electric vehicles (EVs) are part of the energy transition towards a low carbon economy.

Climate Change Talk

As part of the day, the BNP Paribas Foundation also hosted a climate change talk about the scientific consequences of climate change, with keynote speeches from Prof. Joanna D. Haigh, co-director, The Grantham Institute for Climate Change Prof. Joanna D. Haigh, Co-director, The Grantham Institute for Climate Change and Prof. Nick Graham, Lancaster Environment Centre Prof. Nick Graham, Lancaster Environment Centre. This was also live streamed on BNP Paribas Foundation's Facebook channel.

'What's my Impact' campaign

Underpinning World Environment Day was the newly launched 'What's my Impact' initiative in the UK. This is an engagement and awareness programme linked to the UNs Sustainable Development Goals, and highlights how the bank, and its employees can help to achieve the SDGs.

Part of the campaign has included the removal of paper cups from all Harewood Avenue buildings, replacing them with a hot beverage tumbler aimed at encouraging recycling and responsible consumption. The great initiative was highlighted with a statue created by the London College of Communication.
