The Private Capital Group is the private equity investment arm for BNP Paribas in North America. The group invests equity capital or equity and mezzanine capital (including subordinated debt with warrants) in middle-market companies, most often to help finance a structured transaction (a buyout or recapitalization) or to fund the growth of a profitable company through a strategic acquisition or expansion. We seek opportunities to deploy capital as a minority investor, backing proven management teams and frequently partnering with experienced equity sponsors.
BNP Paribas has established a long and successful record in U.S. equity and mezzanine investing alone or in conjunction with many of the most successful private equity firms. Since 1991, we have closed over 75 equity investments and achieved an IRR above 50% on our realized equity portfolio and 12 mezzanine investments, and achieved an IRR above 30% on our realized mezzanine portfolio.
The Private Capital Group's strength resides in the extensive transaction experience of its professionals and its aggressive, flexible approach to risk-taking. The depth of our due diligence analysis and our reputation for quality investing enable us to confidently pursue transactions across a broad range of sectors, including lesser-known industries outside of traditional categories.
Depending on the timing of a transaction, our funding comes either directly from BNP Paribas or from a pool of capital managed by us that includes committed capital from both BNP Paribas and outside investors.
